good morning, america. and royal scare. just hours after prince philip is rushed to the hospital, the queen begins her historic jubilee this morning, without her 90-year-old husband by her side. the touching plea from prince charles asking the nation to cheer on his dad. >> ladies and gentlemen, if we cheer loud enough, he might just hear it, in hospital. war of words. bill clinton goes after mitt romney, saying his election would be calamitous for our country and the world. is this smart politics or a sign of desperation? bill o'reilly is here live to weigh in. and man on fire. look at these pictures taken

right after the man sprayed on sunscreen and went up in flames. how did it happen? and why did he get burned? and the queen rocks out. abc news' unprecedented and exclusive behind-the-scenes access for one of the biggest concerts ever. from sir elton john, to sir paul mccartney. the rock legends party with 250,000 people, to celebrate her majesty. good morning, everyone. hey, robin and lara. boy, so many superstars out last night to celebrate the queen. historic morning today, starting in a different way, at church. >> it really is. we love hearing elton john to begin the morning. but you're right about that, george. we've seen the royal family

arrive at this beautiful thanksgiving church service at st. paul's. but her husband of 64 years, prince philip, was not there by her side, as you know. but she was quite composed, as always. looking, well, majestic in the mint green dress and hat. and 2,000 guests were there. this was a very special moment for queen elizabeth, lara. >> proving every day, age is just a number. she is resplendent. and we're about to see the royal family, have lunch at westminster hall. then, they will roll through the streets in a carriage procession. that happens about 9:30 eastern this morning. and then, back to buckingham palace, where the queen will wave from the balcony. we'll be here for every second of it. >> people have been camping overnight, to see it. they love it when the royals come out on the balcony. it was quite an evening here last night, the queen's concert.

and katie couric was here with behind-the-scenes access. it's hard to believe how packed it was. >> it was a sea of union jacks. i want to point out, you'll notice in the videos that you see today, if you're wondering who the woman is with the queen, in the absence of prince philip, she's been accompanied to all of the day's events by her lady in waiting. >> many people wanted to know that. let's get to abc's nick watt for the latest on prince philip. he will be 91 years old this weekend, hospitalized late on monday. good morning, nick. >> reporter: good morning, guys, from an increasingly loud trafalgar square, here to watch the day unfold. but no prince philip. he's in the hospital. but the queen will be flying solo. a day like today comes along once in a blue moon. as far as the queen's concerned, the show must go on. the young and the glamorous royals are out in force.

there for grandma, the star of the show. for only the second time in 1,000 years of british history, a monarch is celebrating 60 years on the throne. loyal subjects camped out overnight for a glimpse. >> she puts the great in great britain. so, that's why we're here. we're here to celebrate that. >> reporter: the queen is determined not to let her husband's health get in the way of the day. for instan prince philip's bladder infection. the prince, who turns 91 this weekend, will remain in the hospital for a few days. but was sorely missed last night at the jubilee concert. >> the dearly sad thing about this evening is that my father couldn't be here with us. and if we shout loud enough, he might just hear it in hospital and get better. >> reporter: it was royal

razzmatazz. elton john. stevie wonder. sir paul mccartney. celebrating with 250,000 people packed into the streets around the palace. the climax, fireworks and the clean pushing a diamond to ignite the so-called national beacon. london beats las vegas. this morning, a return to more traditional british pomp and pageantry. >> we're not going to see another 60-year reign in our lifetime. it's important to come to be a part of it. >> reporter: and it's a party, the likes of which, you'll never see again. now, over the next few hours, we're going to have a carriage -- over the next few hours, a carriage procession. weather permitting. we're going to have the air force fly past. the royals out on the balcony. remember the royal wedding? a bit like that. and prince philip, hopefully watching on tv from his hospital bed. and, robin, we wish him well. >> we certainly do, nick. nick, just a short distance, at

trafalgar square. joining us now is piers morgan, the host of "piers morgan" on hln. >> great to be here. it's fantastic, isn't it? >> what is the feeling of the people here? >> it's been a real resurgence on the popularity of the modern monarchy. but the viewing figures for these events in britain have been massively high than they were ten years ago. and i think this -- maybe the monarchy was going to die out, too. this is a real statement, these four days. we are back. >> and the royals seem very comfortable and very much wanting to be with the people. it's something -- >> the concert was great. wills and harry and camilla. my favorite moment was the archbishop and canterbury, the head of the church of england, rocking "all my loving" with paul mccartney. >> that's the feeling you have. there's a sense of pride.

on a serious note, not having prince philip, that's got to be very difficult for the queen. he's been there by her side. >> certainly when you saw her going into st. paul's cathedral, when she's on her own. and that reminded us that she's always had prince philip. very sad for her. but he's a top guy. it was a brutal out there on sunday. my co-anchor, brooke, was taken to hospital for hyperthermia. it was a ghastly day. and i expect at the age of 90, it got a bit much for him. but the family goes on. they are incredible, stoic people. >> they are. he'll be celebrating 91 this weekend, on sunday. >> his birthday on sunday. happy birthday, sir, if you're watching. i'm sure you're watching "good morning america." >> of course, he is. why wouldn't he be? >> not watching cnn, obviously. >> i love you. what is it about -- we know you're happy and the pride and the people here. but what is so universal that folks back in america and around the world --

>> people say why do americans love the royal family so much? one, you don't have one. your president lasts eight years. the queen has been here 60 years. what it brings for the country is a sense of real stability. and with that comes a sense of calmness. in times of crisis, in good times and bad, the skween queen steady head of our country. it's a great horse-drawn carriage procession. there is the queen. she's been there for 13 years longer than i've been alive, in that palace, just being a steady hand on the tiller. and i think she's a wonderful lady. i think that the crowds out here, four days running, they've been camping overnight, tells you all you need to know. >> in this great british weather. >> it's going to rain. i hope they wrap it up -- a classic english summer. it's going to rain, rain, rain. it's been raining for 60 years. >> reminiscent of 60 years. heavy downpour on her coronation. >> it rained on her coronation.

and rained almost every day since. >> and on cue, the band comes marching in. you are wonderful. thank you. enjoy. enjoy. >> all right. piers morgan. george, wish you were here. >> we'll get back to you in a bit, robin. now, let's go to josh elliott and the morning's top stories. >> we're going to begin with a violent storm tearing through the midwest overnight. three people were killed in missouri when heavy winds from a thunderstorm blew over their mobile home. authorities had to close a major highway because of debris and fallen power lines. sam is by with more on today's conditions. a black eye for the tsa. five workers at the airport in ft. myers, florida, have been fired. 30 others have been suspended, for not performing random pat-downs on hundreds of passengers. it's believed to be the largest disciplinary action taken by the agency. and a battle that could influence the presidential battle comes to a head in wisconsin today. a recall election is being held,

aimed at forcing republican governor scott walker out of office. he was targeted after taking co rights from state workers. polls show walker holds a slight lead over democrat tom barrett. disney will soon restrict junk good advertising during children's programs. products advertising will have to meet nutritional standards. michelle obama will join robert eisner in the new standards today. venus will pass between the earth and the sun beginning just after 6:00 p.m. eastern time. some parts of the world saw this back in 2004. but it won't happen again until roughly 2117. so, sam champion, this is your last chance at seeing venus on this day. just saying. i love you, sam. george, you got a couple more. don't worry. >> let's hope.

>> they were. they were everywhere. >> they're out there, looking at you right now. >> so, you know, we saw a little jujitsu from clinton. republicans and conservatives accused barack obama of socialist policy. he says that romney and the republicans are going to bring european economics to america. and he said it would be calamitous for our country and the world. >> after how many drinks? how many drinks did he have? this is insane. all of these guys. it's amusing to me and i'm sure it is to you. it's all theater. romney's going to bring european socialism to the united states. does anyone believe that? >> he said the cutbacks, the spending cuts that romney will bring austerity now. and the tax cuts will blow up the future. >> how does he know? the economy's terrible right now. and voters have to decide two things. whether they want to continue to go with barack obama's big,

topdown government stimulation, which has not worked so far. it might work. who knows? or do they want to change to a leaner, meaner, private sector-driven economy. that's what the voter has to decide in november. >> and the jobs report that came out friday, that seemed to crystallize a new conventional wisdom. and romney has a real shot. if you're giving him some advice, what does he need to do to seal the deal? >> if the election were held tomorrow, romney would win. people are afraid. it's not ideological like it is in wisconsin. they're afraid. if i were romney, i'd get out of the way. don't be overbearing. and he has to perform well in the three debates. he has to be calm. he has to put himself through as authoritative. i'm going to solve these problems. all right? we gave the president three years. it's a mess. if you want to vote again on hope, go ahead. but i have the ability to solve these problems. >> you're saying, a do no harm

campaign. >> right. it's a referendum on president obama. so, mitt romney has to be lower key. but then, in the debates, he has to come on strong. that's where he's got to go, here's what i'm going to do, "a," "b", and "c." barack obama a great debater. he's very quick. >> let's talk about wisconsin a little bit. you agree with george will this is the second-most important election in the country this year. why should the rest of the country care about this? republican governor, scott walker, facing a recall election. >> the big story in wisconsin is ideology. walker has done a good job. he brought the deficit down in that state, big-time. and unemployment is down a full percent in one year. he's done a good job on paper. but the left hates him because he wants to reform how government workers are paid. >> and take away their collective bargaining rights. >> he wants to take it away. but it's reform. illinois doesn't have any of that. and they're going down the

drain. they're going to collapse. walker says, we can't continue to spend at this level. we have to reform it. we have to rein in collective bargaining. it's ideological. people have to make up their minds. do we want fiscal solvency? >> do you think he goes on to win? >> i do. thanks for making my book a big best-seller. >> all right. we're going to switch gears. more wisconsin outrage, however relative. after green bay packers receiver, donald driver, the newly-minted champ there on "dancing with the stars" did this. he tossed his football cleats to a young boy, only to have a woman wrestle them away from the young fella. but there is a happy ending to the story. amy robach is here with it all. >> reporter: it made waves worldwide. hours after that video was posted, people were commenting from thailand to toronto.

at the center of it all, an unexpecting 12-year-old boy, who was excited to catch a shoe from his hero. not realizing there was a middle-aged woman next to him, ready for a fight. it's no surprise that everyone wants a piece of donald driver. >> yes. >> reporter: winner of this year's "dancing with the stars" and green bay packers star wide receiver. >> touchdown for driver. >> reporter: so, as he left the field at an annual charity baseball game sunday for his children's organization -- fans in the bleachers went wild as he started peeling off parts of his uniform. he even tossed up his cleat into the stand, aiming for a young buy in his sights. >> i was really excited and hopeful of catching something. >> reporter: but look what happens to 12-year-old steven wagner next. look at it again. this grown woman, identified as robin, physically wrestles with the 12-year-old. eventually yanking the cleat out

of her hand. and then, posts this to her facebook page. writing, donald is missing a shoe. >> i felt like it was thrown to me. and didn't have to do it in that kind of a way. >> reporter: many others felt that way, too. within hours of the video being posted, there was an overwhelming negative response. comments alling ereth a very selfish woman. and her actions, truly disturbing. even donald driver himself chimed in. writing on his own facebook page, i want to get this boy the cleats he deserved. and when we finished our interview with stephen, he did. >> how is everything? >> good. >> good? i have some gifts for you. >> reporter: driver brought stephen the cleats that were meant for him. and ever the good sport, had kind words for the woman who started the whole commotion. >> she's a human being. she made a mistake. and i think at the end of the day, stephen has more than anyone else. i'm glad i put a smile on his

happened at holiday inn express in elk ridge. someone called them around 10:30 after reports of a smell of odor from the 4th floor. guest on the floor and floors above and below were evacuated. four people way rested. agencies -- were arrested. a number of agencies ation. victims of a triple shooting are expected to survive. police respond to the 3400 block of lombard street in east baltimore after 9 last night. one of the victims was reportedly a juvenile. back to new york for more good morning america. we are back in 30 minutes.

♪ again, we are live from london. and just moments ago, queen elizabeth, leaving a reception, about to head to westminster hall, where she will have lunch. and that will be followed by a reception in the streets. and people are already lining the streets for a chance to see queen elizabeth and the royal family. and they'll ultimately come here to buckingham palace. so, a lot happening right now, as we continue to celebrate the queen's diamond jubilee. and she's being serenaded, again and again, from choirs all around. >> absolutely. and what a front-row seat we're blessed to have. last night, what a night. they sure know how to do it here. the royal concert, was unbelievable. sir paul mccartney, one of my favorite moments.

just seeing him give it. and having the royal family sing along with him, just fabulous. katie couric had an unprecedented backstage pass. unbelievable access. we have the pleasure of having her with us. >> i can see her right now. it's not like she hasn't been to bed or anything like that. you'll see that concert tonight on abc. and katie will give us a sneak peek coming up. we're going to switch gears here this morning. a disturbing morning about bath salts. people are smoking them right now, having all kinds of dangerous effects. we begin with a bizarre story that suntan lovers should pay attention to. a man was badly burned after his skin caught fire. you see how serious the burns were. rob nelson has the details. >> it's a weird, strange, scary

story. good morning, guys. they're two rituals. as the weather gets warmer this time of year, lathering on the sunscreen, and firing up the grill for good barbecue. but as this story shows, that could be a dangerous combination. these graphic photos show where brett's skin was burned from his grill, when his sunscreen caught fire. >> i've never experienced anything like that in my life. >> reporter: you see his skin appears red. sigworth suffered burns on his back, neck, ear and back. he walked over to the grill, not knowing it w0u8d be flammable after it was on his skin. >> if people were told this was flammable for two minutes on your skin afterwards, people probably wouldn't use it. >> reporter: dan diller, ceo of

the burn prevention network. said that droplets from the spray may have still been in the air. >> as he approached the flame on the charcoal, it followed the vapor. and it follows the vapor trail to his body. >> reporter: banana boat said it was sorry to hear about sigworth's experience. saying, quote, we are unaware of any prior incidents similar to what brett has described. but because nothing is more important to us than the safety of our consumers, we're taking this matter very seriously. as for sigworth, he says he does not plan to sue, but is sharing the photos with others because he wants to make sure no one else gets burned after using sunscreen. >> i had no idea. it was so scary. i wouldn't want to see it happen to anybody else. >> reporter: one important note to pass along in all of this, the warnings on that spray say it is flammable. to not use it near heat or flames. but it does not say anything

charged. but according to police, showing the effects of a supercharged speed, commonly called bath salts. >> pretty devastating to think that the kid was a normal kid walking around, maybe the week before. >> reporter: a potpourri of constantly changing chemicals, soon to be legal again in many states, that have nothing to do with your mother's actual bath products. instead, the inexpensive synthetic drugs, make users paranoid, violent aun unpredictable. police believe the bath salts are behind the face-eating attack of a miami man that left the victim in critical condition and the perpetrator killed by police. >> you have to chill out a minute. >> reporter: and perhaps behind this growling suspect's unwillingness to surrender. for the cop on the street, how dangerous is the person who used this? >> we heard about people with extraordinary strength. you know, we've seen that with pcp in the past.

in their own words, they tell us what it was like to grow up with granny, the queen. >> growing up, sort of with the queen as my grandmother, you look back at history and go, you know, has she really done this? is this really happening? at the moment, obviously, it's amazing, the duty. to her, duty and the way she was brought up, is very, very important. she puts her own personal feelings and her own personal thoughts to the side and goes, what's for the country's greater good? and many some sides, what's for the world's greater good? >> reporter: but first and foremost, she's their grandmother. or as they call her, granny. >> she takes interest in what we do. in her children, as well as her grandchildren. she wants to know, which charities we're supporting, how life's going. jobs and such. >> reporter: and like their grandmother, william and harry have chosen to take the concept of duty and service really seriously. with no special treatment. >> the thing about military is

queen's 60-year reign this morning, we can't help but think about the future of the monarchy. we're joined now by penny juner, whose book "prince william, the man who will be king," also will find himself on the throne. what a treat for us. >> a treat for all of us. >> a historic event. and how is the family? the royal family, on this occasion? i know the public, the people. i was at the picnic yesterday. so much love for their queen. how does the queen feel about celebrating the diamond jubilee? >> i think they're busting with the affection. it affirms for her and the royal family. they're not there because they want to be there. they're there because parliament, the people, want them. and a lot of times people snipe at them. they say they're too expensive and criticize them. but this is a real endorsement.

we love them. >> in your book, you write how much the queen loves her grandson, william. >> as she does. as she loves all of her grandchildren. but william is the one most thoughtful. he is the one that will bun day be king. he won't succeed her. >> that's a question a lot of americans have. there's rumors that, perhaps, he'll jump over his father. that's just not the case? >> it won't happen. it's not the way british monarchy works. the king is dead, long live the king. if you don't do that. if you start saying, well, we don't like this one as much as that one, that's dangerous. it's really dangerous. why stick with the house of winds windsor? and why do that? you're into an election. the great thing about monarchy is, it's a unifying factor. the fact that everybody -- nobody voted for the queen. >> right. >> nobody can feel they lost out.

>> and what's the feeling behind the scenes? i know you really got some insider information. the feeling behind the scenes between prince charles and prince william about the throne and who will take it? is prince charles comfortable with the fact that he will, one day? would he prefer not to? >> i think the prince of wales, he spent all of his life preparing for this job. he may still have a few more years to go before he gets it. >> god willing. >> god willing. god willing. but he is ready for it. he is prepared for it. he will be a fantastic king. and although there is some criticism of him, you know, he has not unified the country. >> he really has changed his -- i feel like there's a lot of love for him. the scene at the concert last night. he was really in control of the situation. he's a different man than during the whole diana days. >> during the diana days, he was such an unhappy man. you know, he was desperate that that marriage wasn't working.
